Windows Movie Maker problem - avi has no sound?

well first i had to convert my file to avi with vixy net then get a wmm codec so i could even import the avi. but when i do import it it has no sound. is that normal? i need the sound. wmm doesn't say anything about me missing an audio codecs. help?
