How long did it take to housebreak (crate train) your one-year-old dog?

I adopted a one-year-old shih-tzu (I already have a three-year-old who I housebroke when he was a puppy). I am having to housebreak her, and I am using the same method I used with my first -- crate training. I either keep her in her crate or on a leash beside me at all times (even in the house) to prevent her from using it on the carpet. If I see her sniffing, I take her outside, as well as take her out several times throughout the day. I praise her profusely and treat her when she uses it outside. I know the amount of time varies from pet to pet, but I just want to put some numbers to that broad generalization.
